To commemorate D-day we shall be looking at the role of the house seventy years ago, when it was a Land Girls' Hostel, and residents will be comparing notes about their experiences in the 1940s.
Some residents have memories of being evacuees, others had experience of military service.
Pat was in the WRAF
Our most senior resident, Freddy Stevens, was in 21st Army Group, which organised the D-day invasion.
On the 21st of May, we had another visit from Sara Spade. Sara led a ukulele workshop with us, which we tackled with varying degrees of hilarity, (it's surprising how difficult a two chord song can be!)
Then after a tea break, Sara performed a selection of familiar songs from the forties and fifties, concluding with a beautiful rendition of 'A nightingale sang in Berkley Square.'
We like to have music in the evening every few weeks. Recently we had violinist Jon Spinner performing for us. Residents settled down with a sherry and enjoyed a carefully selected programme of familiar classical pieces, then some more populist composers like Gershwin and LennonMcCartney.
It has been ten years since Lesley joined us at Sharnbrook House. Lesley is a key member of the housekeeping team, and also provides our hairdressing service. She likes looking after everyone and making them feel special. Residents love her for her caring manner and raucous laugh.
Sue Pearce was on hand to present Lesley with her long service award.
Are you having a bit of an emotional moment there, Lesley? Or is it just the pollen making your eyes water?
