The Higgins Art Gallery and Museum

On the 27th of February, we went to the Higgins in Bedford. There was a watercolour exhibition on, which included work by Turner, Cotman, Samuel Palmer, and John Piper.

Light levels are kept low to preserve delicate pigments and papers.

Residents were impressed with the museum's collection of Roman artefacts.

The gallery cafe proves a comfortable spot to sit and discuss what we have seen.

Ladies Who Lunch

On Monday the 24th, the weather wasn't too bad, so some of us went out to a pub in the village.

The 'Swan With Two Nicks' is quite cosy inside.

On the 5th of February, we had a lunch party for Sue, who left Sharnbrook House after ten years here as manager. Residents, friends and volunteers joined us on the day to wish her luck.

Sue looking awkward as Anna says nice things about her.

The food was spectacular

Especially the sugar craft flowers on the cake.

We made a party playlist with topical songs like 'Boy named Sue'
and 'Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye'

Moving on....

Following a really enjoyable Christmas, residents have turned their minds to other occupations to avoid becoming depressed by the endless rain.
It is always comforting to eat something sweet with a cup of tea, so here is  a group preparing bakewell tart....
 .....and contemplating the results
For more temporal study we have been looking at Australian aboriginal art and working on this group picture which is about the journey between waterholes.
It has stimulated lots of discussion and those involved have enjoyed doing something a bit different.
As promised, we were visited by Elvis who is getting to know us quite well... though he still needs to master senior humour.

Hearts were fluttering by the time he left!

Meanwhile, outside, the mild weather has brought the snowdrops and the slugs out in the garden, but spring does not feel so far off now and we have started planning events for the next few weeks.
Another trip to the art gallery, a pub lunch, a visiting musician and who knows what else.
